Mark Twain: A pseudonym of
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), American
novelist, short-story writer and humorist. After
training as a printer, he became a Mississippi
River pilot, taking his pseudonum from the
depth-sounding call meaning "by the mark take two
fathoms."
