Adventures in Philosophy: Arthur Schopenhauer - The Classic Philosophers: Arthur Schopenhauer

Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) is considered by many to be a brilliant, manysided philosopher, at times caustic, who attained posthumously even popular acclaim. His principal work, The World as Will and Idea, starts with the thesis that the world is my my idea, a primary fact of consciousness implying the inseparableness of subject and object. His ethics is based on the will to be, the will to live, and this is the cause of all struggle, sorrow, and evil in the world.
