Murder a Jew, Lose a City

Precoursor from WWII

by Eugene Narrett, Ph.D.

Some readers may have perceived an extreme or satiric edge to my recent piece, "Murder a Jew, Lose a City" written in response to the murder of four Jews, aged 16 - 60 by an Islamic terrorist on March 31 at the gates of the town of Kedumim. But no satiric edge was intended; the point was practicality and saving lives. Consider as a postscript this early modern precoursor of the deterrent idea. It emerged from a European government temporarily situated in London, one that had experience with massive terror assault.

In May of 1942, the first eyewitness accounts, from escaped Jews and German industrialists of the Nazi-organized systematic extermination of Europe's Jews reached London from Switzerland. Beginning June 29, 1942, more and more corroborating detail and variety of sources accumulated steadily in that summer and the following months (and years). From that late June day in 1942 the story was broadcast around the world though, as David S. Wyman documents,* most western media and, even more so, diplomats, downplayed the magnitude of the horror and buried the events in inner pages or brief wire service reports...

Nevertheless, the reports were so clear and disturbing to General Wladyslaw Sikorski, Prime Minister of the Polish Government in exile, that he gathered nine other heads of state from occupied European nations to urge that American President Franklin Roosevelt bomb German cities in explicit reprisal for and as a deterrencd to "the mass executions, especially those of Polish Jews." Via the Polish ambassador in Washington, FDR gave his typical array of excuses why this was not possible.

As we know from many sources, including Wyman, this sombre and damning episode had frequent iterations. For example, repeated pleas to bomb the crematoria and gas chambers at Auschwitz or, at least, the railroad lines from Budapest and the Balkans to Auschwitz were met with claims of impossibilty by the British and American diplomats though in fact the allies bombed factories within the Auschwitz complex as well as targets farther away and more heavily defended, too.**

Anyone doubting the deterrent and peace-making abilities of massive, punitive bombing (like punitive damages in law as we have for murder of American civilians abroad) need only look at photos of Hamburg in 1944-5 or consider the effect of the second atomic bomb at Nagasaki on the Japanese regime: they surrendered and haven't attacked anyone since.

During the latter months of 1942, the administration of FDR deflected attention from its own gross contempt for genocide against Jews by, among other things, pressing the Vatican to publicly condemn the atrocities. The Vatican, enmeshed in its extended effort to covertly arrange an Anglo-German alliance against Russia (there already was a de facto Anglo-German alliance against the Jewish people) refused. They were vigorously pursuing the spin offs of their "intermarium" plans for creating a Catholic empire that would surpass the Hapsburg dominions and stretch from the Baltic to the Black Seas.***

What FDR, Winnie Churchill and their diplomatic elites did do in response to the increasingly gruesome evidence of what the Germans and their helpers were doing to the Jews of Europe was to emphasize that after the war "the United Nations would set up a commission to investigate war crimes [sic] and that perpetrators would face fearful retribution." In other words, they used the agony of the genocide against the Jews to take another giant step toward a New World Order.

So that was the American and British response to the shoah: put a few dozen German top dogs on trial, hang them, and in the meantime continue the British policy of sabotaging the Jewish National Home. Oh, and create a "world community" whose main task would be to further partition Israel and to relentlessly hound the Jewish state that managed to be born despite the agenda of its many enemies, enemies never satiated: the past decade the agnda of this "world community" has included threatening to prosecute in the World Court Jewish soldiers and officers that strike back at Islamic terrorists in Israel.

Perhaps it is poetic justice, or providence divine, that this same "community" created by Britain and America to internationalize the world (and consisting largely of British, French and other European former colonies) spends much of its time, when not pinning Israel to the bullseye, excoriating the "imperialism" to which its states owe their artificial existence.

Two points in concluding: fierce retaliation does serve a powerful and tonic preemptive purpose. It improves human behavior and hope by showing that "there is a God Who judges in the land." That of course is contra the agenda of the new secular world order whose obvious target is the Jewish people and their holy sites. The lack of massive retaliation for terror is what keeps the vague "war on terror" grinding on its path of crisis and attrition. The elites can't do crisis - management without a crisis to manage.... in Iraq or wherever. And, second point, the feckless pretense that this "war on terror" charade is about finding and trying in courts, with posturing lawyers, mass murderers and murderers of civilians when what these murderers need is summary execution. No, -- rather than self-assertion and survival, the judicial activists must preen while their nations go down.

If Kalkilya, Tulkarem, Arab Hebron [what a hideous oxymoron and shame that is], and Jenin were now gone because of the atrocity at Kedumim we would not face the likelihood, nay, the near certainty of more such horrors. But that's been the story of the past sixty years and more where the Jewish people are concerned.

But it's not too late: an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure. The lives that could be saved by massive retaliation now will not be retrievable after the next terror attacks.

As Rav Yosef Karo codified, "when they are gathering to attack you, kill them first." As that is true for retail murderers, it is true in spades for the genocide planners in Teheran. "If not now, when?"

In Israel as in America, victory and peace, or attrition, despair, and the slide to the pit.
