Ward
Churchill's Blood (Purity) Libel
by David A. Yeagley, Ph.D.
Leftist
pseudo-Indian Ward Churchill is a cause
célèbre for hating America, but I
seem to have threatened that cause by pointing out
his faux Indian bloodline. The Left is now
attacking me, a conservative Indian, claiming I'm
not Indian, either. An far-Left fake Indian who
hates America can't tolerate a real Indian who
loves America. The Left has now launched a vicious,
libelous campaign against me and my family, stating
I am not really an Indian -- inoculating Churchill
against the seriousness of his deceptions.
Since my C-SPAN appearance, May 28, 2005, the
Democratic
Underground website has identified me as "the
right's counter to Ward Churchill." The site notes
my association with FrontPageMagazine,
and Young America's
Foundation, and also suggests some mysterious
"connection with the CIA's Pahlavai
family/foundation." The first two associations are
certainly accurate; the third is wholly fictitious
and inflammatory. My interest in Iran and her
people is purely historical and personal.
The C-SPAN appearance was a taped speech I gave
at the University
of Massachusetts, at Amherst, on March 29,
2005. I decry the artificial Communist image that
left-wing Indian spokesmen have created over the
last 35 years, citing people like Clyde and Vernon
Bellecourt and Dennis Banks. I called for a
positive attitude for the future, in which Indians
embrace America as our stepchild -- for whom we are
responsible.
Then my mother passed away, April 9, 2005. One
month later, almost to the day, Cinda Hughes,
Miss
Wheelchair 2004, posted a note on the notorious
forums of Indianz.com,
in which she claimed that I am an
adopted child, and not a Comanche Indian. This
note was posted May 6, the Friday before Mother's
Day. Miss Hughes declares me a fake, and a white
man.
Miss
Hughes, a member of the Kiowa nation, is a
nationally
known advocate for handicap concerns. She is
the first Indian woman to be named Miss Wheelchair,
and has devoted her notoriety to the cause of the
Left. She continued her libel against me until it
reached Native
American Times, the premiere
newspaper for Oklahoma Indians. An entire article
appeared June 14, in which her libel is increased:
"According to sources at the Comanche headquarters,
David is not Comanche. His adopted mother is
Comanche."
When contacted, Native American Times
immediately removed the link, but various
replications were made, including computer screen
shots. In fact, Indianz.com actually reproduced
the whole article on its forums, and even
referenced it on the frontpage of the Indianz.com
website, in "The
Hoop," May 19.
The Left has shown more than disrespect. Indian
people have been induced to lie about other
Indians. Mine is a closed case of cruel libel. To
wait until my mother had passed away, and then to
assert the libelous claim that I am adopted, not
only shows the black heart of many Indians but the
shameless desperation of the Left -- willing to use
anyone for anything, at any cost, as long as it
suits their agendas. In this case, they've attacked
my family, because they hate America and I don't.
It's that simple (and that despicable).
I possess historical records of his family line
dating back to the mid-19th century, as well as my
own birth certificates, original and renewed. The
Comanche records are not open to the public, but
any inquirer will be told "Yes," or "No" if they
ask whether I am an enrolled Comanche. Of course,
I'm enrolled. I have the older BIA card and the
newer tribal ID.
However, the question of adoption is one that
could be asked of any person, at any time, for the
purpose of casting aspersions, or doubt, upon an
opponent's credibility. The shadow of doubt now
hangs over all Indian people. The fraudulence of
people like Ward Churchill and the black casino
groups in Connecticut and New York has set a
terrible precedent. The very idea of claiming to be
Indian is suspect now. The concept of being Indian
is up for grabs, as "wannabees" claim possessing
Indian blood doesn't make one a carrier of "Indian
culture" (which they read a lot about in college).
They all despise the blood, and despise anyone who
has it and does not hold to their party line. Woe
to any Indian who is a conservative! Anyone who's
concern about Indian blood is a
Nazi, according to Churchill.
The Left has no alternative but to desperately
lie, and to claim I'm not Indian. If they can't
have their fake Indian preaching hatred of America,
then they cannot afford to let me, a real Indian,
openly love America. If the Indian voice is not
employed in the liberal cause, then the liberals
must destroy it. Leftist white racists are still
telling Indians how to be Indian. But in my case, I
already know what it means to be Indian -- and what
it means for the good of America.
